Activities
The HOA Activities Committee is a group of dedicated volunteers who work hard to organize and offer a wide variety of events for our community. In addition to the annual events listed below, be on the lookout for many others! Posters for ticketed events are posted in the clubhouse in a glass case near the Caddy Shack. Events will also be announced in the newsletter, on the HOA Gazette, and on the HOA website.
The Activities Committee welcomes suggestions and your help! If you’re interested in serving on our committee, contact one of the committee officers. Or, if you’d just like to lend a helping hand when you can, contact anyone on the committee.
HOA Activities Committee Events
Dances
Themed Dances take place most months on a Saturday evening. Many are themed around holidays but we have also had themes like Hippie /60’s, Glow in the Dark, & Disney. These are ticketed events featuring live music.
Concerts
Several times a year we host concerts & shows featuring talent from around the country including singing groups, comedians, & variety shows. These take place in the ballroom & are ticketed events.
Pot Luck
Potluck Dinner is held in the ballroom the third Thursday of the Month, September – April at 5:30 pm. The Activities Committee provides an entrée, non-alcoholic beverages, tableware & plates. Residents attending are asked to provide a covered dish or dessert that will serve 10-12 people. It’s another great way to meet new friends & learn about the community.
Fashion Show
The fashion show is an annual Spring event you don’t want to miss. Experience a fabulous lunch with your friends & neighbors, as well as a silent auction, games of chance, & exciting new up-to-date fashions of casual, dressy, and cruise wear.
Wine and Cheese
Wine, Chocolate & Cheese evenings are held once a year. Enjoy an evening featuring wine, beer, chocolates, cheese & mouth-watering hors d’oeuvres. This is a ticketed event with limited seating.
Pool Parties
Pool Parties are held on Summer Holidays. These are ticked events with a buffet-style lunch provided and a cash bar.
Christmas Holiday Events
Holiday events take place throughout December. The schedule varies each year but typically include a free Holiday concert, Light up Schalamar event, scavenger hunt, Christmas tree festival and a parade. Some of these are ticketed events.
Scavenger Hunts
Scavenger Hunts are free to all residents and a fun way to meet new friends and explore the community. There are different styles of hunts, ending in the Club House for refreshments and mingling.
Vendor Fair
Vendor Fair is another free event, showcasing a variety of businesses from around the area, many of them residents. You will find home improvement companies, insurance companies, travel agents and much more.
Carport Sale
Once a year we have a community wide car port sale, & all residents are encouraged to participate as either buyers or sellers. The first day is reserved for resident shoppers only, the second day is open to the public. Advertising for this event is paid for by the Activities Committee. Note – this is the only time residents are allowed to have sales in their driveways.
Kentucky Derby Party
The Kentucky Derby Party is held on Derby Day, the first Saturday in May, with games of chance, hat decorating contests, great food, and live coverage of the races for racing enthusiasts.
Stage Play
In March, the Schalamar Players perform a comedy play, complete with a full set on the ballroom stage. There are two weekend performances, and it’s a sellout ticketed event.
Coffee and Donuts
Coffee & Donuts takes place the third Saturday of the month from 7:30 am to 10 am, in the ballroom. There is a small charge. All residents are welcome, and it is a great to enjoy the camaraderie of visiting with friends & neighbors. This a wonderful opportunity to meet people when you are new to the community.
CRAFT COMMITTEE EVENT
Craft Fair- Our craft committee hosts a Craft Fair every year in November where our many talented residents display and sell their hand-made creations. It is open to all Schalamar residents to sell and shop. Always a nice variety of merchandise for sale!
